When Jesus came into
the world about 2000 years ago, He was given by God to die for our sins, so that
those who believe in Him would have everlasting life, not ever to be separated
from God (John 3:16). However, the majority of the people in Jesus' day
were not looking for a Savior who would suffer and die on the cross for their
sins, but rather one who would conquer the world for them and give them wealth
and power. The very people who Jesus came to save failed to recognize him
as their Savior.
This online
devotional asks the question, "Do I really need a Savior?" Two thousand
years later, do we still need what Jesus offers? Below are given several
different ways that people might, and do, respond to this question today.

Do I Really Need a Savior?
I
try to be a good person, I give to charities, and I volunteer to help others.
My parents are Christians, and I grew up in a Christian home. I go to
church for Easter and Christmas services, but I don't seem to have the time to
go more often. I am not sure if I really need a Savior that much, because
I don't break any of the big laws of the Ten Commandments, such as stealing,
killing, etc. Since God is a loving God, I am sure that he will overlook
the little things that I might do that are wrong.

Do I Really Need a Savior?
Ah, the good life. We have been blessed with
everything that we need to enjoy life: A loving relationship, enough money
so that we don't have to worry about our day to day needs, flexible careers
which include plenty of time for leisure activities, and good health. Is
life meaningful and fulfilling? Who cares. There is plenty of time
for that later.
Needing a Savior is really the last thing from our minds.

Do I Really Need a Savior?
I
have made my life on my own, with no help from anyone. I worked myself
through college and medical school, and started my own practice without relying
on anyone. I believe that to be successful and to have fulfillment in
life, you have to trust yourself and not rely on a crutch.
Do I need a Savior? Doesn't the Bible say, "God helps those who help
themselves?"

Do I Really Need a Savior?
Life
is tough: working two jobs, supporting and trying to raise a family, keeping a
healthy relationship with my wife, working out at the gym three days a week,
taking care of my disabled parents, paying bills, and on and on. My life is
balanced so precisely that if one little thing goes wrong, everything falls
apart. I am usually running late for everything I do, and I catch up at night
and may be a little short on sleep.
I probably need a Savior, but I need to wait until I get my life in order before
I make a commitment like that.

Do I Really Need a Savior?
A lot
of pain and suffering in the world has come about in the name of religion.
The church today is just another business, trying to gain wealth, power, and
success. People would be better off taking care of each other rather than
worrying about religion. And who needs a god anyway, since it is well
known that we evolved from monkeys, and the universe came about on its own with
a Big Bang without any help from a god.

Do I Really Need a Savior?
Yes,
I could use a Savoir. I need a place to sleep, and I need food and
medicine. In my case, drugs and alcohol have led to where I am today.
I know that a Savior like Jesus would not want anything to do with someone like
me.
