2006 marks the second year
of Upward Flag Football and Cheerleading at Cool Spring Church, in partnership
with New Hanover Presbyterian Church. This year, the league has grown to
41 football and cheerleading teams between 1st and 6th grade, include 4 all-girl
teams of 4th through 6th grade. There are over 380 children participating.
In the January 7, 2006 Online Devotional,
a father discusses how Upward Flag Football benefited his daughter. These
benefits not only include learning how to play football, but also include learning
teamwork, sportsmanship, Bible verses, and the spirit of volunteerism.
In today's devotional, the benefits of Upward Flag
Football, and in reality the entire Upward Program, are seen from a coach's
perspective. Scott Allen was an Upward Flag Football coach in the Fall of
2005, and he gave a testimony about his experience as a coach during the
worship services at Cool Spring Church one Sunday early in 2006. This
testimony was given as a part of the Living Beyond Myself sermon series.
This series laid out a challenge for us to be involved in some things beyond our
own personal concerns and to fulfill the purpose for which we were all created.
Please take a few moments and listen to Scott's
testimony, even if you have already heard it at Cool Spring earlier in 2006.
As you listen to his testimony, consider the following questions:
- Have I asked God what His will is for my life?
- Am I doing all of what God wants me to do to glorify Him and to further
His kingdom on earth?
I believe that Scott's experience is an excellent example of what it means to be "in the
Spirit": That God is working within this person via His Holy Spirit to
accomplish His will and His own purposes. What an incredible blessing!
